Fab Lab Field Trip for Girls Inc.

We are Graycen and Clementine Schwartz. We live in Sarasota, FL. On January 21 2017 we will be celebrating our Bat Mitzvahs together. Our Torah portion, Sh’mot, is the very first chapter in the Book of Exodus. Moses is born and begins his journey to help his people. Moses is a great hero, almost all of us know who he is and what he achieved. However he would not have been able to do all that he did had there not been some very wise and brave women along his way. In Sh’mot we are introduced to strong female characters: Moses’ mother, sister, adoptive mother and wife. In the Torah, female heroes are not often identified. Sh’mot is full of them!
We are lucky to live in a country where young girls and women do have opportunities to learn and to grow and live safely, but still we do not have enough female heroes and many girls, even here in Sarasota, need guidance and assistance to reach their goals. We want girls everywhere to have some of the same chances we both have to fulfill their dreams. Maybe some of them will become amazing women like those in the Torah? We have chosen Girls Inc. as the beneficiary of our Mitzvah Project. They offer MANY programs, all designed to empower girls and help them become strong, smart and bold. We have a Girls Inc. branch right up the street from our synagogue. They are always in need of funds and supplies and have been wanting to make a field trip to the Suncoast Science Center’s Fabrication Lab but cannot afford it at this time. We would like to help them get there. The technology tools and the S.T.E.M. skills provided there can open up a new future these girls might not be exposed to otherwise (plus it’s fun and our older sister Hadleigh is a volunteer there).
We will be contributing money in a variety of ways, this page is an important part of our plan. Working together, giving even the smallest amount, will assist us in helping the Girls reach their dream of going to the Fab Lab. Please consider helping.
