Repaving the Road to Opportunity- Van Fundraiser

Why should I have dreams if I cannot fulfill them?
- Mytazia Coles  age 13

Isolation is the Silent Killer of the most amazing dreams I have ever heard from girls in our community.   It is our responsibility to ensure each girl has access to every resource necessary to achieve her dream! said Angela Patton - CEO of Girls For A Change.

Since we have opened our center it has become clear that many parents who want to send their daughters to our program for out-of-school activities are unable to participate due to limited or no access to transportation. Unfortunately, too many working families are isolated from education and employment because of transportation challenges. Lack of access to transportation can limit a person’s ability to go to school, hold a job, and take part in the community.

Due to our current lack of funds, Girls For A Change cannot purchase a van to transport girls from school to our center and community activities. Without reliable transportation, we are unable to serve girls who could benefit from being in a safe, supportive learning environment. We aim to reach as many girls in Central Virginia as possible!  We need funds to purchase a van to transport girls to our center; a place where girls can get ahead of the learning curve.

Summers are great, with their carefree, longer days and sweet breaks from the daily routine; however, girls lose the learning rhythm they developed over the course of the school year, which widens the achievement gap especially for girls in marginalized communities. Girls For A Change gives girls a safe-haven during the summer break and during the “danger zone" after school hours of 3pm-6pm—the time of day when human trafficking, youth violence, drug use, and other reckless behaviors are most likely to occur. And, like many situations, children living in poverty pay a higher price when things go wrong.   GFAC’s goals are for every girl to grow up safe and healthy, graduate high school and go on to college, post-high school training, or enter the workforce. It is our wish that they can create and achieve their own paths to success, love life, and give back to their communities. We Are Ready, to implement our programs and services, which are all alignment with best practices and evidence-based outcomes.

Do One Thing Today... Join Girls For A Change's 30 day Fundraising Challenge to help us purchase a van for the center.

It may sound like a big endeavor. Well, it is. But with some brainstorming, help from friends and family, time, and passion... We can do it and We will win!!!
