Hello! My name is Mariella and I'm a high school senior from Denver, CO. I'm also a trumpet player and want to give back to my community for my Senior Capstone (cumulative project to end my grade school journey) through jazz education.

I am organizing a Girls in Jazz Day for over 40 high schools in my school district. Our unique ensemble will be known as the "Sister Swing Syndicate". This event will be on February 14th, 2025, and will host all-day music workshops for female and non-binary students led by Denver-based female jazz artists with a concluding performance to celebrate the future of women in jazz.

As a female artist, I've often found myself as the only girl in the trumpet section, or in some cases, the entire band. Girls in Jazz Day will be a milestone in creating gender equity within my school district. I'm hoping that this day of empowerment will encourage more students to take up/continue to learn the art of jazz.

I am counting on the community to help me produce this impactful and historical event, and keep the music alive. Funds are needed to pay clinicians, provide dinner, and purchase t-shirts. With your contribution, many students will be given the opportunity and confidence to pursue their musical dreams.
