Girls Farm Camp: Year Two!

Donation protected
The spring crops are planted and we're getting ready for another harvest season at Sidewalk Ends Farm. We're also getting ready for year two of Girls Farm Camp! Last year's camp was the best— we had eight amazing young people farming with us in the peak heat of August, harvesting potatoes, learning about plant medicine, cooking lunch with crops from the field, and having hot pepper eating contests. We received teaching from amazing mentors, talked about caring for our bodies and the land, and sang songs in the field.  Creative power was disperse among us— women of many ages shared their wisdoms, and we practiced being attentive to the wisdom of plants. The whole week was a deep collaboration between mentors, youth, and the land.

The #1 piece of feedback we got on our last day of camp was that the campers wished they could come back on Monday! So we decided that this year camp will be two weeks long. We've also opened up a few more slots— we'll have thirteen campers this year instead of eight. Preparations are well under way: we've already interviewed and accepted our campers, and we're hard at work scheduling guest teachers and dreaming up field trips.

These expansions  mean we have to raise a little more money than last year. Most of the money we raise goes to paying stipends to the campers— it is an important value of camp that we recognize the hard work and time these young people are putting in at the farm while they are with us, and make the camp accessible to people who otherwise would need a summer job. The rest of the money we raise goes to stipends for guest teachers and counselors, field trips, insurance, lunch ingredients, renting the EJLeague Green Drive bus for transportation <3, and other supplies.

Please help us keep this dreamy thing going!
