Girls & boys in Sri Lanka get access to Education

Hi, I’m Hareny.

After visiting my parents home town (Jaffna, Sri Lanka) and the school that my family has set up for children who are unable to go to school in the main part of the town (due to lack of transport or money) I was incredibly moved.

My family initially donated the building and surrounding land in order to provide children in the area who struggle financially and some of whom have lost their parents due to the civil war, with a place of education and safety.

Though the school provides as much education as possible and acts as a safe haven for many students providing food and drink, there is still more work to be done.

The children aged 4-16 share 2 small classrooms: one indoors and one outdoors shared amongst almost 40 children. One of these classrooms has only one working lightbulb.

4 of the older students wish to study IT in the city post-school but only 2 working computers are currently available for them to study on.

Despite these difficulties, some of the students have recently sat O-Levels and are awaiting results, showing great potential and drive.

Education should be a fundamental human right and with financial support these children can escape poverty and build better lives for themselves.

Your contributions will go towards building bookshelves, better educational resources (whiteboard/pens) increased number of teaching staff, playground equipment, clothing, food and sanitary feminine hygiene products for girls.
