Girl on Girl Newsstand Fundraiser

Hello everyone! We are Girl on Girl Collective! We are a female artist collective that aims to create a space for female-identifying artists to critique, collaborate, and support each other across all mediums. Since we started at Syracuse University in 2012, we have branched out to Los Angeles, Detroit, and New York City, curating shows at Spark Contemporary Art Space and Junior High.
We have been selected to make an installation in Prospect Park this upcoming September as part of the Art Slope art festival (artslope.nyc ). Our project "Not For Sale" takes the form of a New York City newsstand, where the traditional objects you might find in a newsstand are replaced by art objects created by up to 150 female identifying artists from all over the world.
The newsstand will be manned by Girl on Girl and some of the artists participating. If a guest wants one of the objects, they have to engage in a conversation with it's creator or a member of Girl on Girl. The artist then can grant them permission to take the object, ask them to come back again later, or even refuse. In doing this we hope to replace the market of supply and demand with a system of connection and consent.
Your money will help us purchase the wood, paint, nails, tools, and other supplies that will go into building the physical newsstand. Additionally, we would like to be able to help cover printing and shipping costs for our 150+ artists who will be participating.
Our deadline is September 1st, just in time to build the newsstand for it's installation on September 16th. The installation will run from September 17th to 25th.
We are so excited to have the opportunity to create an inviting, approachable space for the community to come and engage in conversations that are sometimes difficult to have. We strongly believe that each and every artist we are featuring has something important to say, and by donating you are helping us build a platform for them to speak off of.
