My name is Fern Blackwell, I am 14 years old and I am a member of 1st Wychbury Rangers in Stourbridge. I have recently been selected to represent Girlguiding Worcestershire on an international trip to Rome, Italy in August 2026. I have been a member of Girlguiding for over 10 years, beginning as a Rainbow, Brownie, Guide and now a Ranger. Guiding has allowed me to grow in confidence, develop new skills and make new friends. Girlguiding has always provided me with a safe space where I am accepted for who I am.

I am incredibly proud of having been selected for an international trip as attending the selection weekend with people from across Worcestershire was a challenge in itself. To undertake this incredible experience, I am working to raise £2,250. This will be a fantastic way for me to represent Girlguiding, gain new skills and learn about other cultures. This opportunity will allow me to experience what a global organisation Girlguiding and Scouting can be as we will have the opportunity to meet Guides and Scouts from around Europe.

During the trip we will journey through Europe starting in Rome with a scavenger hunt-style challenge and interrailing our way back to Birmingham. We will be completing challenges, experiencing new cultures, meeting Guiding and Scouting friends and earning points. Each team will plan their route allowing them to complete as many challenges as possible before returning to the Midlands for a celebration. As a team we will help to decide travel arrangements, accommodation, and activities allowing us to complete as many challenges as possible. This means we will need to work well as a team and develop our skills in planning, budgeting, teamwork, etc.

Raising £2,250 is a huge challenge for me. This money will cover briefing weekends, travel, accommodation and in country costs. I have been fundraising through making crafts such as candles, key rings and cakes which I have been selling at guiding and other events. I have also been selling donated clothes on Vinted. I would be extremely grateful for any support that you may be able to provide to my fundraising.

On my return I hope to share my experiences with young members in Guiding to inspire them to undertake their own adventures.
