Having lived in Sierra Leone, I have been saddened to see the poverty that many children face there. Following this, I started a foundation which travels to different schools and villages, providing education to girls by awarding them scholarships, providing them academic materials needed to stay in school and all while having an effective learning experience.
I raise up my voice—not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard. We cannot succeed when half of us are held back. To all my girls reading this never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams.
Discrimination has no place in the 21st century, and I believe every girl has the right to go to school, stay safe from violence, access health services, and fully participate in her community.
I also believe that every girl has the right to be in charge of her future and her fate, by creating an organization that empowers a collective obligation to protect her rights and promote her wellbeing.
To reach our worldwide goals, we first have to reach our girls!!
With more than 130 million girls out of school today, we need your support to reach the most vulnerable girls in Sierra Leone denied an education. Using your time and talents, rally your loved ones to support Girl Optimization around the world. Poverty, discrimination, and exploitation keep millions of girls out of school. What’s more, half of all girls in developing countries don’t even finish primary school. Some girls must work to help their families, or stay home to care for younger siblings.
