Update PLEASE READ: Gir's ultrasound showed signs of chronic pancreatitis which could have contributed to her episodes and her echo was clear. We are awaiting results of her heart monitor readings to determine for sure if the pacemaker is necessary. If we are able to rule out the need for the pacemaker, I will use the funds raised to pay for all of the diagnostics. When she was in the ER it sounded like, "leave here and go straight to UC Davis for surgery or your dog will die". I'm so happy to report that this was not the case and for the time being, Gir is doing great! Thank you for all of your support and caring! We wouldn't have been able to get through this without it!
Update: Gir is currently on medication that is supposed to help short term and has an abdominal ultrasound and echocardiogram schedule for next week. These are also very expensive procedures, but are necessary to determine how we proceed. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far! Thank for helping to save my little gremlin's life! Every bit is making such a huge difference! We still have a ways to go to be able to afford her surgery, but are so grateful for everything!
Gir had an episode today where her heart actually stopped. She was rushed to the emergency vet and it was found that her heart rate was abnormally slow. The recommendation is to transport her to UC Davis to have a pacemaker placed, which would be a major surgery. The estimated cost is $10,000-$18,000.
Gir goes to work with me every day and sits on my desk while I work. She loves plush dragon toys, and will eat anything. She's a full-sized dog in a fun-size package. She is so smart, unique, and wonderful. I just want her to be around as long as possible.
Today has been an incredibly difficult day. We said goodbye to my mom's dog this morning and I just lost my absolute heart dog, Chato, in May. With Gir in the ICU, Brando is the only dog in the house for the first time and is so sad and uneasy. We are all heartbroken and just want Gir to come home and live a long, happy, healthy life.
