Giovanni’s death was extremely horrific and left many with heavy hearts. He was an affectionate, loving, and caring friend to many. If you knew Gio he was respectful and always conscious for others wellbeing. Giovanni is a high school graduate and a college attendant at Oakland. In addition, some of Giovanni’s aspirations are writing music, indulging in photography, recording music, graphic designing; in other words, if you think of Art, you would think of Giovanni. He has a loving family and many friends who care for him dearly. Many showed endless love for Giovanni on the day of this heart wrenching event. For example, reaching out to some of his closer friends to share their condolences, sharing Instagram/Facebook/Twitter and Snapchat posts as memories with Giovanni. Everyone knows Giovanni as Gio. The nicest, warm-hearted, calmest, passionate, loving, caring, considerate and lack of arrogance instilled person to walk Earth.

Prayers Please:

My name is Darrin Haddon and Giovanni Smith was one of my best friends. I would love and appreciate the help to make sure my friend, brother and rock have the best burial service possible. Giovanni’s family and friends would also appreciate this, as we try to progress throughout this for Gio.

Here is a story brief about what happened to Giovanni...

One suspect is in custody in connection with the fatal shooting of a West Bloomfield man and the wounding of two others in Pontiac late Wednesday night.

Killed was Giovanni Smith, 20, who was found lying on grass near the sidewalk in the 600 block of Lydia Lane shortly after 10:30 p.m., according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. He was shot in the head.

The suspected shooter is a 25-year-old Pontiac man, arrested at the scene.

The other victims, a 16-year-old male from West Bloomfield and a 21-year-old male from Farmington Hills, were also shot, but the injuries aren’t life-threatening, the sheriff’s office said.

The three victims had reportedly gone to the home on Lydia Lane to pick up belongings of the 16-year-old’s sister, who had recently broken up with the suspect. An argument ensued on the porch, and then the suspect reportedly got a handgun from the house, came back outside and started shooting at the three as they fled, the sheriff’s office said.

John Smith, Giovanni Smith’s father, said his son lost his life trying to help a friend.

“He had no criminal record, went to school, work, church,” John Smith said. “He was a good kid and got punished for that. He had nothing to do with (the argument)..and he got shot in the back.”

The two who received the non-fatal shots took themselves to McLaren-Oakland Hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies confiscated a firearm from the home that’s believed to have been used in the shooting.

The suspect is in the Oakland County Jail pending issuance of charges.
