Giovanni Guizar's Eye Surgery

​Hi guys my name is Jessica Contreras and I’m here to try to raise some money for my cousin Giovanni Guizar who is only twenty years old and that needs to have a surgery done to the both of his eyes. He has Keratoconus, which is a condition in which the clear tissue on the front of the eye (cornea) bulges outward. This condition cannot be cured or “fixed” with glasses or contacts. It can ultimately lead to blindness and the only options in severe cases, like his, is a new procedure called cross-linking, and the insertion of a permanent lens into both of his eyes, if this is unsuccessful he will need a corneal transplant. The risks associated with a corneal transplant are tremendous (including rejection of the transplant, immunosuppressive medications for the rest of his life, and the need for future transplant surgery within 10 years, recovery time, etc) and we need your help so that he can obtain these other procedures before it is too late. Because cross-linking and intacs insertion are new procedures in the USA, insurance plans do not cover it, but this is our only hope. The recovery time is long and he will also be unable to work during the healing process, putting him and his family through extreme financial distress.
​Due to his condition, Giovanni has been unable to obtain a drivers license, drive a car, he has been denied job opportunities, has been unable to purse a further education, and he has been deprived of so many things that the rest of us take for granted. Despite the disadvantages he has faced, he has not given up and he works at McDonald’s to help support his mother and his 2 younger brothers. He is a provider, a generous person, humble, and is always willing to help everyone, no matter what his circumstances are. We implore you to make a donation. We do not want Giovanni to lose his eyesight and be blind. He has his whole life ahead of him, and you can make a difference!
