Ginsburg’s Medical Bills

Donation protected
Long read, but if you could take the time and maybe help me and my sweet baby girl out I would appreciate it. More than any of you could know.

I know this year has been extremely difficult for everyone. For me the year has taken a toll on me mentally as you could expect for a critical care nurse in COVID. Especially a nurse in her first year.

Today, I am asking for your help. I adopted a beautiful dog named Ginsburg (Ginsy for short). I adopted her knowing she was heartworm positive and was still receiving treatment. Two nights ago something happened to her and she started screaming in pain. She just went to lay down on the floor. Since she is heartworm positive getting her heart rate up can be dangerous. She could throw a clot or knock loose a heartworm and send it out to her body. She was in pain and panicking, I knew I had to get her help.
I immediately took her to an emergency vet where they examined her, took X-rays and somehow didn’t find anything wrong. They though it was a blood clot from heartworm as well and said that presentation on X-rays can take several hours. They gave her a shot that they hoped would help her discomfort and sent her home with me and told me to look for signs of her getting worse. No more than 2 hours later I brought her back. They kept her overnight, did more x rays, drew blood, had her on fluids, hydromorphone, fentanyl, and ketamine to help sedate and control her now severe pain. She could no longer stand, no longer walk, no longer get comfortable. Just constant screaming, trembling, hyper salivating, and a look of terror in her eyes. They referred her to a neurologist. I had to pick her up and take her to another vet. She needed an MRI, more pain medication, and steroids.
Last night her neurologist called and told me she herniated a disc. It isn’t good. The herniation has spread up her spinal column 5 to 6 vertebrae. Today she is schedule for surgery at 1:00. It is very invasive since the herniation has gone up her cord. She will be in the hospital for 3 to 4 more days post op to keep a close eye on her. Even with surgery she has a 30% chance of walking again. Even with surgery she may develop something called Myelomalacia. This is a progressive loss of spinal cord function. She could start to lose the ability to move her front legs as well as her ability to breath. This is a death sentence for dogs. It usually shows signs of progression in the first couple of days. She hasn’t shown that yet so I am hopeful. She has given me unconditional love and I want to repay that. I want to give her a full life even if she may be on wheels. I will care for her as she has cared for me and always put her quality of life first.

As of right now her bill will be around $10,000. Not including rehab post surgery or a cart if she needs it. I know this is a huge ask to donate money during these extremely tough times but any little bit would help. I would be forever grateful to everyone of you, even if you just consider it. Thank you.
