Ginny is a loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and cheer coach. She has been battling cancer with determination and grace for over a decade. She is our hero and she needs our help.
Ginny’s first battle with cancer began at 16 years old. A mole removed from her abdomen revealed stage 2 melanoma. She underwent additional surgery and life went on for 10 years. Then Ginny noticed cyst like spots in her breasts. After multiple testing, they realized her lymph nodes were enlarged and later a biopsy revealed stage 4 melanoma. That was October 2007. Then those cysts began to show up subcutaneously all over her body which made her disease inoperable. Since 2007, Ginny has been actively battling this disease for 12 years with only 1.5 years in remission. Her treatment has taken her to Johns Hopkins in Maryland, Duke in North Carolina, UVA in Virginia, Sloan Kettering in NY, and MD Anderson in Houston.
Currently she is under the care of her main oncologist at Duke University in Durham, NC (She lives in Chesapeake, VA) and is on a biochemo combo drug and dealing with many side effects. For 2 months, she couldn't drive because of inflammation to her eyes and though that has gotten better, she will need glasses permanently and eye surgery later when she can take a break from the medication. She is also experiencing high fevers on this medication so the doctor has decided to stop this medication until he can see her next week. Ginny is running out of options, as you can tell, she's been battling for so long, therefore she has tried everything approved by the FDA and due to certain medical issues, she doesn't qualify for many trials.
Ginny needs our help. As her friends, we’ve set up this site to collect donations to offset Ginny’s medical expenses. Duke is out of network for Ginny’s insurance and her out of pocket expense is up to $7500 a year, not to mention the co-pays, travel to and from, and prescriptions. Please consider helping our warrior as she faces yet another battle. It is extremely hard to handle this mentally even without the added expense of it.
