Dear family and friends,

On October 22nd, around 9:30pm my mother, Ginny Asman, started experiencing chest pain. Emergency personnel were called and they brought her to St. Elizabeth's Hospital. She did not have any previous major health issues, so the event caught us all off-guard. Through testing they found she was not having a heart attack but instead an aortic dissection. Essentially, there was a large tear in her body's main artery. Unfortunately, because it's a rare disorder and requires a complicated procedure, there is no one in Appleton, WI that can do the procedure. My mom was brave and even tried to lighten the mood through jokes between her severe bouts of pain. Meanwhile the staff at St. Elizabeth searched for a location that had someone capable of performing the procedure and also had room in the ICU for her recovery after surgery. The nearest location was in Milwaukee, and would require a helicopter ride, if there was any chance for her to survive. By the time the helicopter arrived, the pain was unbearable even with medications. In the final moments before her flight, she told us she loved all of her family, and if it is the end, that she had loved her life and couldn't have asked for anything more. Sadly, that was the last time any of us spoke with her as she died on the helicopter ride to Milwaukee.

We are all devastated by her sudden and unexpected death. The family was not prepared for the high costs associated with her medical expenses, helicopter flight, and her upcoming celebration of life. We had prayed we'd have many more years together before having to say goodbye. We are reaching out to you with hopes to help cover these costs and for your prayers during this time. The amount listed is only an estimate of the costs as we're still waiting to get many of the medical bills from the previous couple days. Anything you can afford to send is truly appreciated.
