Ginge's Send Off

My mum passed away on 3rd April following a shock diagnosis of sinister secondary metastasis of the brain. The primary cancer was believed to be in the lung with other tumours on the liver and kidneys.

She suffered from COPD and migraines and had been dismissed by her GP and the hospital, even when they found something on her lung two years ago. Then, Approx 8 weeks ago, following a bought of headaches, my brother Rob called an ambulance because it was believed my mum had suffered a stroke. What had happened was the tumours were pressing on her brain, causing weakness down one side of the body and horrendous headaches. At this point, she wasn't retaining much information and to cut a very long story short, her condition was untreatable, and she was placed on palliative care. She sadly then passed away on Sunday.

Due to the conditions within the hospital, my mum was only allowed one visitor for 1 hour per day. That meant she was left alone for 23 hours a day, knowing she would die. Mum should have been given an open visit for her and us to spend as much time as possible with her. Sadly by the time it came around for us to visit again, she became more and more poorly, eventually unable to talk. So the family lost the chance to say goodbye properly. It was a blessing that Ribblesdale Ward allowed us to stay with her from the moment she was placed on the end of life care pathway to the time she passed. That meant Me and Rob and her two sisters could support her through the passing process.

My mum had no money and no funeral plans because, to be honest, at 51, you don't expect to suddenly be told you have 6-8 weeks to live. So we have set up this page to raise enough money to give her the send-off she deserved. She has been failed by the system and unable to communicate her wishes, so we are reaching out for support.

Mum did not believe she was loved and we as a family want to show her that she was. She never wanted a big send off, we know that but we would like to raise enough to get everyoone who mattered, together to say goodbye.

The money raised will go towards funeral costs as well as other costs assciated with her passing. We truly value any amount you kindly donate and I know my mum would to. She was the kindest person who gave of herself to others. We never had much money as a family but we werent driven by that; love and time together was always so important to her and to us. Please help us to prove that she was indeed loved like she deserved to be.
