Fund The Original GingerBear

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to my campaign to fund GingerBear's Healing Brews and Foods.

I am passionate about ginger root. I like its spice, its tang. I like the way I have to peel its skin, even the tight nooks between the nubs that are really hard to clean. The slice of my knife when I cut into the root unlocks ginger’s crisp and clean aromatics. The smell sharpens my mind, and nowadays, I can use all the help in that arena that I can get.

Ginger has gotten me through a really hard time in my life, but I’ll spare you the details. I am “all eyes on the prize” these days. I read an article about homemade ginger beer a few years ago. The article taught me how to make my own ginger bug. Ginger what? Ginger Bug: a culture of beneficial bacteria made from fresh ginger root and sugar that provides the base for fermented sodas. In my bug phase, I was a BIG fan of Dark and Stormy cocktails. Moscow Mules followed soon after. Then it was homemade ginger beer with lime and rum from the home bar because let’s face it, who can afford to go out cocktailing all the time?

Once I got back to my life post health issue (okay, I had two brain surgeries. Ta Da!) I started to mess with Kombucha. I started my own SCOBY.  SCO - what? SCOBY: symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast. Kombucha is the stuff that my dreams are made of, for real. The SCOBY, my little test in fermentation, yielded and yielded and yielded, and continues to yield. I give away baby SCOBYs to friends when they come through town because that’s what a caring bear does for his friends.

Back to the ginger though, because that is why I am asking you for your money.

Ginger is what reconnected me to myself in my time of profound disorientation. It’s what has kept me happy and grounded in the present. I am even growing a little ginger in my garden now. My original ginger bug is still kicking in the fridge, and I have a second refrigerator in the garage to store my growing collection of giant Ball jars full of brews. I am experimental with my craft, adding citrus from time to time, but I am not going to alter the true taste of my unfined, unfiltered ginger beer. The Kombucha is where I get crazy. I’ve batched pomegranate, blueberry, blackberry, pineapple, chai, cherry, even date and ginger.

The money you give me will be used to perfect my product. I need to finalize recipes, which means I need to make lots more ginger beer and kombucha batches to get the bubbles just right. I need to buy sugar and ginger, fresh organic fruits, more Ball jars, and more pots to brew in. Oh, did I mention I make Chai, too? A story for another time, but I’ll need to buy spices, and nuts for homemade almond milk to bring to market as well.

While I’ll be busy in the kitchen, I need to pay someone to create a logo and to help me lock in my market. Then I’ll need to buy glass bottles and make labels. Finally, I’ll need to test my finished product in the market. Incentive alert: If you live close-by, you can be part of the focus groups!

The sooner I have the funds, the sooner I can get GingerBear’s Healing Brews going full steam.  I have always wanted a food & beverage business of my own.  After years of working in other people’s space, I like occupying my own kitchen on my own terms and time schedule. What I like most about it is the peace I experience from the ritual of food preparation. But, once the product is made, it’s all about bringing these delicious hand crafted beverages to others. Maybe my healing fermented goodness will bring calm and health to someone in need. Maybe it will be thrown on top of some ice and liquor. Your kitchen, your call! Your life, your show!

It’s my time to turn this passion into a reality, and I don’t have the funds to do it alone. Be a part of my GingerBear revolution! Or, simply reach into your pockets and fund me because there’s already a lot of revolution out there. Fund me, then watch me thrive, and know that you played a major part in turning my life back around, back to right side up.

Thank you, Family & Friends. One of my most appreciative experiences is my gratitude for community. Everywhere I have lived and traveled, I have always been surrounded by amazing people, friends who encourage, inspire, and support me to overcome my struggles and achieve & create a sustainable and thriving world!
