Ginger's Recovery Journey
Donation protected
The National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) defines addiction as a chronic, relapsing brain disease that is characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, despite harmful consequences. It has likely impacted someone you know and love.
Ginger admitted herself to the Hazelden Betty Ford Center City Campus 8/11/2020. She is a 37 year old Behavioral Health Advocate living in Minneapolis, MN. She loves the outdoors, live music, animals, and her job.
Currently on leave, Ginger is doing the best she can to support herself (rent/bills) in addition to the portion of her care not covered by insurance. As many of us know, this horrific disease “does not discriminate,” impacting people of all ages, races and economic classes.
Substance use disorder changes in how the brain functions. These changes have long lasting impacts (often for years). For that reason, the expert care team recommends a "step down approach."
Generally, the treatment model looks like this:
1. Medical Detox
2. Residential Inpatient Care
3. Day Program (Residential on "campus" due to COVID)
4. Outpatient Program
5. Mutual Support Groups (AA meetings, Hazelden’s ongoing virtual recovery program, sober events)
Addiction is a primary, progressive, and fatal disease. Fortunately, we know people DO RECOVER! If you can find it in your heart to contribute every dollar will help!
