Ginger Herold battle towards breast cancer
Donation protected
Hello! My sister Ginger Herold was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma back in March. It is an aggressive form of breast cancer. This cancer feeds off of estrogen which was growing at a rapid rate. She had a partial mastectomy on May 11th and they did remove the mass and felt comfortable that they were successful with removing all of the cancer. However, when they sent her mass for more testing after it was removed they completed a oncotype DX scoring which came back high. With the high Oncotype DX, high KI-67, and other leading factors they located that her cancer is of a type that is more aggressive than originally thought. On June 14th she went and had her port implanted towards Bethlehem, PA which is where her chemo and radiation treatments will be. On June 15th she had her first chemo treatment. She has had some side effects with chemo already and the first two treatments are much higher doses as they have to attack it hard due to it being so aggressive. She has been trying to work as much as she can during all of this however, as of today she can no longer work at this time. She had a follow up appointment with her doctor today and her body is not getting the rest that it needs and her doctor said she has to go on short term disability. They advised her that the chemo is very aggressive and basically it is making her body run a marathon without training and it is taking a toll on her. She also learned today that the two drugs that they are giving her for chemo are four times every other day week then she goes to one drug weekly for 12 weeks of chemo before they will switch the treatment plan to radiation. She does have to travel roughly an hour each direction for each treatment. She is not strong enough to drive so her husband Hugo has been missing work to take her back and forth to all of her treatments/appointments. She is exhausted to the point that it is hard for her to make the trip back and forth in one day and when she has early morning appointments they have to get a hotel and break it up for her. The expenses between gas, food, hotel, etc are starting to take a toll on them financially. With her having to go on short term disability now and Hugo not being able to work his full week the incoming income is getting smaller as the expenses are rising. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and please keep the prayers coming!
