As many of you know, my mother, Regina Gottschall, has been battling Stage 2 Esophageal Cancer. The doctors caught her cancer early on and were confident that it was small enough that chemo and radiation would destroy the cancer cells. After 5 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy, reports showed that the cancer had shrunk a little, but was still there. The next step was a major surgery to remove the cancer. Regina's esophagus was removed and her stomach was stretched to create a new esophagus. At the time I am writing this post, my mom is still in the hospital recovering from this major surgery. She was only suppose to be in the hospital for 7-10 days, but will be in for longer. She was has several bumps in the ride with this surgery; including her heart (she has a weak heart and already has a pacemaker/defibrillator) and breathing issues. Please prayer for her recovery and that she can get out of the hospital soon. Also, prayer for my dad as he spends endless hours and nights at the hospital supporting my mom.
As many of you know, medical procedures and treatments are expensive. Chemo and radiation were expensive enough, now my parents will also be burdened by the cost of this major surgery and elongated hospital stay. My mom is an amazing woman. She hasn't held a "real" job in a long time, but she is a superwoman who has helped so many people. She is the most giving and generous woman I have ever met in my life. She is always willing to help others. I am sure many of you have been touched by her and benefited from her giving heart and time. Anyone who has ever met my mother, remembers her. Let's come together and give back to her and my dad during this time. If you can't give financially, that's ok. I just ask that you continue to pray for my mom for her recovery. Thank you all who are going through this journey with us.
-With Love,
Kristy (Gina's daughter)
