Fighting the State for disability, over a year please help
Donation protected
For the past year I have not been able to work. Last December I relapsed and had to start chemotherapy treatments. Several weeks into the treatment my doctor spoke with me that chemotherapy needed to be "extended". "My body was not reacting to the chemotherapy". This was very hard to mentally deal with the side effects are extreme fatigue, confusion, slow reaction time and sleep disturbances. It was recommended by three of my doctors "I take time off and go on short term disability to take care of my body".
In the past I have always gone through chemotherapy and plasmapheris and return back to work.
The exhaustion always wins. In 2019 I went back to work at Maple View Healthcare as soon as treatments were done. I was sitting at my desk doing hours of inputting information into my computer for MDS's so the facility could do billing. Due to the extreme fatigue, I fell asleep typing and was fired.
Last year it was decided I needed to take time off for the "heart surgery" I had been putting off due to work.
During some of the preliminary testing it was learned I had two strokes. The heart surgery went well and upon further tests in was discovered the problem was not solved. Another surgery would be needed.
Over the last year I have developed a severe sleep disorder, as well as a Major Depressive Disorder and a anxiety disorder that at times triggers my asthma.
I went for a sleep study, and it was confirmed that indeed sleep apnea is present. During the study the sensors did record another issue with my heart.
In March I applied for temporary disability with the State of Connecticut. I was denied and appealed. I heard nothing from them until OCTOBER, at that time only because I was able to get a State Representative and Congressman involved in my case. In October they reached out to Social Security, disability on my behalf.
Social Security stated they did not hear from me, which was bull because I had the return postcard they had to sign when they received my appeal.
They needed my medical records so off I went to Yale. NINE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY THREE pages of medical notes from Jan '24 to Nov '24.
Of course there was more in December.
Everything has been a constant struggle the past year.
I pray every single day and thank God for all he provides.
It is a miracle I am still in, my home. It really is. To date I have heard nothing about my case. A neighbor that is an alcoholic has disability benefits but me, I am still fighting.
If anyone reading this thinks its easy to tell your story and ask for help, it makes one very humble.
I apologize for even posting this, but I need help. I don't want to lose my home, I have cats and birds all are rescues, they need a home and food in their bellies.
Anything anyone can do to help; I cannot even find the words to explain how grateful I am.
God Bless.
