Hi, My name is Jennifer and I'm starting this go fund me for my friend and colleague Gina Hessburg's life-saving emergency surgery.

Gina is a pillar of the Minneapolis/St. Paul creative community and is known for bringing people together, as well as being self-reliant, strong, adventurous and brave.

Due to a grapefruit size fibroid and other complications, on Thursday, Dec 14th, she will have a life-saving emergency surgery for a full hysterectomy and appendix removal.

This is on top of 7 years of battling optic neuritis, an undiagnosed disease, and vision loss.

The time has come where she needs our help.

It’s time for us to show the love and support of her community by showering her with financial support so she can heal.

The surgery requires a full month of recovery–no driving, no lifting, no strenuous activity…no work.

Gina has done what she’s had to do to support herself financially the past 7 years, covering high medical costs on top of living expenses. She wrote a book and flipped a house on her own to support herself. We know she is a resourceful, creative and independent woman!

We have a goal of $22,000 to get her ahead of the constant worry and fear of how to live without being able to work.

As freelancers, we know that if we don’t work, we don’t eat.

Her medical bills are $2,000 a month (that covers the insurance premium, copays, specialist visits, and medications). On top of that, it’s the New Year and a new $3,000 deductible to meet immediately.

The medical care in New Mexico is abysmal, so a move back to Minneapolis/St.Paul is up next after recovering from surgery.

This means another hurdle of significant expenses is up next: moving costs, placing a deposit and first month’s rent on top of basic living expenses.
