All,
U.S. Border Patrol Agent (BPA) Gilbert Valdez's wife, Africa Vasquez, has been diagnosed with an extremely rare condition known as Atypical hemolytic-uremic syndrome (aHUS). At this time, Gilbert is currently at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, TX where they are attempting to stabilize her. He has been staying at the hospital this whole time and sleeping in the chair by her side. Her recovery time is still unknown and the Doctors have advised that due to how rare this affliction is they are unsure how much longer she will remain hospitalized. At this time, Gilbert’s faith is strong and he is holding up as best as can be expected.
We have been collectively brainstorming and coming up with ideas with how to best help Gilbert while he goes through this difficult time. Financial assistance aside, those of you that have been in these situations know that sometimes a simple gesture such as a phone call or a text message is greatly appreciated and great for morale.
A fellow brother in green is in need and this is the time when we (U.S. Border Patrol) have always shone as an organization. We are renowned for our dedication to service, tradition and especially to each other in time of hardship. Let us keep this spirit alive and do what we can for our “brother”, because I am 100% certain he would do it for anyone of us if fortunes were reversed. Although this is strictly on a volunteer basis, let us show Gilbert our support and help him in his time of need.
Thank you and God Bless.
