It’s with a heavy heart that we share the news that our beloved Gil Vicente, a retired US Navy Chief, passed away on Friday, June 5th. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia, but a preexisting lung condition known as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, complicated matters. His scarred lung tissue lessened his ability to take in enough oxygen, making it difficult to breathe on his own, which required intubation connected to a ventilator to facilitate breathing. Although the goal was to eventually be extubated to slowly breathe fully on his own, after one week of continuous intubation, he was unable to maintain oxygen saturations to sustain life even with the aid of oxygen.
I’m in disbelief that he is no longer with us. As my brother-in-law, he loved my sister, Evangeline “Babes” Vicente, dearly and took great care of her. We all are so thankful for everything he’s done for the family.
The following message are words expressed by Gil’s children, Constance, Alastaire, and Svetlanna:
First and foremost, we’re sincerely grateful for all the support and kind, loving words from all of our friends and family. The journey we are still enduring has been full of grief and shock; tears and suffering. We’re deeply distraught with the events following up to our father’s passing. He was an exceptional man who loved us whole-heartedly, and many have known him to be a jovial spirit, full of love and laughter. His legacy will forever remain in our hearts.
Unfortunately, during the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing protocols, only a select few may be able to attend some of the services to honor and pay respects for our beloved Daddy. In lieu of this unfortunate circumstance, we are extending the offer to contribute to pay respects in an alternative manner. Please do not feel obligated to contribute to this GoFundMe, for there are plenty of other ways you can reach out to us to share your condolences. We thank you all so much for sharing with us fond memories you’ve had with our father.

All funds will be going directly into Babes's account.
