A new wheelchair for Amy

My wife, Amy, suffered a hemorrhagic stroke in 2009. The damage caused by the bleed affected her motor skills and balance. She's come along way in recovery since and can now walk with a walker and a cane, but a wheelchair is still a neccessity for things like laundry, feeding the dog, etc. The standard chair her folks bought her almost 9 years ago has been across the country several times and it's starting to show. It also impedes Amy's independence. 





We decided recently it was time to look into getting her a custom chair that was light weight and easier for her to manuever on her own. Amy's not giving up on walking, but she'd love to be able to roll herself out the front door to take our pug Palace outside while I'm at work, among other things she's unable to do in a 35-pound wheelchair that's falling apart. She had an appointment at the rehab center in Gillette, got measured and picked out a chair. We waited weeks for the price and were told that if we wanted to see if Medicaid would cover any of it, we'd have to wait another 4-5 months. Will Medicaid still exist in 5 months?



We put what we had down as a deposit to get the chair into production and will owe the balance when the chair is delivered in 4-5 weeks. The transmission on our car is also failing with almost a years worth of payments still to make and with mounting credit card balances and student loan payments, I decided to start this campaign in hopes of keeping our heads only slightly under water.
