Gifts of Love and Healing for La Maestra Loca
Donation protected
On April 6th, Maestra had just finished prepping an EPIC game for her Bricolage 6th graders and was heading towards Pagoda Cafe for her favorite curried chicken salad for lunch. As she was crossing Esplanade Ave at Dorgenois, she was struck by a Sewage and Water Board truck.
Her immediate concerns were: ruining her husband's birthday (Paul); traumatizing the children who witnessed the aftermath of the accident; and concern that her 6th graders wouldn't get to play the fantastic Spanish game she had prepped for them that afternoon. Bricolage staff and administration were there to support Maestra until emergency services arrived.
She was transported by ambulance to University Hospital, where she underwent hours of scans and diagnostics. She was later released with the diagnosis of a concussion and deep tissue bruising throughout the right side of her body. While suffering a concussion she's been unable to drive and must take Ubers or rely on friends for transportation.
Maestra's been referred to various doctors for pain management and treatment for her ongoing healing and recovery. Having exhausted her ten days of PTO, she is now taking unpaid medical leave while waiting for approval for short-term disability, which covers 60% of her salary. Thus far, she's been unsuccessful in finding an attorney to pursue any claim against the Sewage and Water Board because the city government has over a decade's long backlog of unpaid claims.
While Maestra heals at home, we're starting this Go Fund Me to relieve some of the financial stress from an accident like the one she's experienced. Please know that every donation is appreciated --and they quickly add up! These gifts of love will go toward paying the ongoing medical bills, physical therapy, and covering lost income.
Please share and send her and her family good vibes if you can't donate! They're grateful for the outpouring of love they've received since this accident.
With so much love and gratitude, on behalf of the Williamsons: Annabelle, Paul, Isla, Memphis, Disney the Cat, and Pancake the Tortoise.
