Hello, our names are Bill & Anne Fisher and we, along with our friends, Marc Fansler, Charles Leeper, Dean Waldinger, Tim Hickey, Pat Dietz and Shawn Liggett and all of our families, all lifetime friends of the Tim Scott family, are wanting to help them as they navigate their life without their beloved son and brother, Garrett.
Garret Lee Scott, 20, of Bradford, IL, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2020 at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove from injuries sustained as a passenger in a vehicle accident.
Please read the following paragraphs, written by Garrett’s father, Tim, and read by a family friend after his Honor Walk through the halls of the hospital and had entered into the hospital room for the family’s final goodbyes, so you can truly understand who this young man was to so many.
“Garrett Lee Scott came into this world on August 24, 2001 at 04:57 AM and our lives were forever changed for the better.
He was a wonderful child full of life and energy- a magnetism that was felt by all and continued to grow later in his life. He was a leader by example in his thoughtful manner and wonderful spirit. He loved his family and was generous with his time and life. His sense of responsibility was strong and we’ve witnessed none better in this life.
He is the son that we would imagine any parent wished for and value, love, and cherish. We were lucky to have him in our lives for 20 wonderful years. He never went against us. Garrett was wise beyond his years. So thoughtful about everything, he was kind and helpful to even people less fortunate than he was. Garrett was without fear and was a worker anyone would want - talented and brave, loyal and genuine.
He loved art. He loved mechanical projects. Garrett never knew a challenge he wouldn’t tackle or hill he wouldn’t climb. Garrett would always lend a hand to those who needed it.
He loved his grandparents Pat and Wynn Scott and Rick and Gayle Evans. He looked up to older people and always acknowledged their life and skills. He sought their counsel as well as ours and we were proud of that.
Garrett was an old soul. He liked music that meant something, he was patriotic, and was a student of history. As a 20 year old man, he was so intuitive and had things figured out.
I often introduced him as my great son because he never disappointed us, making the right decisions with the confidence of a man twice his age. He was a friend to many and beloved by all who knew him.
He was our great son and we will miss him very much. It’s a great loss that we will never see him again. Hear his laugh, watch him work- He was amazing to say the least.
Garrett won the admiration of 50 year old men with his high character- grandparents and children alike. But especially his mother, me, and his beloved great younger brother Connor.
He was larger than life itself and his beautiful soul will be missed here by many. He will never leave our hearts. We will carry him in our hearts with honor, dignity, and love.
He is and always will be respected by all who knew him. He is a man of honor and will always be cherished. The kind of man his father will have to live up to- and I will.
Our family and friends who stay behind will watch him float the halls of this hospital on his journey to do one of his last great deeds. His body left on earth will save many lives through his final act of selfless generosity.
Garret Lee Scott began as a child and grew to be one of the best men I ever knew. He will be greatly missed, and he will be forever in our hearts because his life has made us all better. It was a privilege to know him and his beautiful soul.
We hope to see and hold him again someday. God called him to do great things and we believe Garrett to be the right man for the task at hand- no fear, all go, and no quit.
Garrett Scott- you are THE MAN.“
