A Math Champion is a community hero, a supporter who believes every child deserves the joy of math. They empower young minds by providing books and experiences that make math real, relevant, and fun.

I'm Valerie D. Johnson, retired educator (30+ years), owner of West Oak Lane Kids, and author of 1 2 3 Count with Me on Granddad's Farm and I Am a Math Kid. My mission is to share the gift of reading and math with Title I students.

The Campaign: Why It Matters

Every child deserves the opportunity and tools to explore, discover, and grow into a confident learner. WOL Kids invites you—businesses, organizations, and individuals—to provide students at Title I schools with copies of my award-winning books and author visits, delivered personally by me.

Books transform math from abstract concepts to everyday adventures. As a former math specialist, I’ve seen stories ignite "aha!" moments, connecting classroom learning to real life. Through vibrant illustrations, relatable characters, and real-world math connections in my books, I create confident, curious minds, thriving in school and beyond.

Our Mission: Math Through Books

Through my books, I aim to show children the beauty and power of math all around them, making it accessible, meaningful, and fun. By providing engaging opportunities to use math, I spark a love for the subject and ignite an interest in STEM.

During author visits, I will:

• strengthen literacy skills.

• cultivate students' potential as confident math learners.

• explore the journey of becoming an author.

Students will also experience an interactive read aloud, discover the themes of my books, and learn about their inspiration.

Your donation, regardless of size, directly impacts young learners. By contributing, you'll help provide autographed books, interactive author presentations, and take-home resources, ensuring every child has the tools to ignite a lifelong love of math.

• Math Champion ($20) – Gifts 1 book.

• Bronze Champion ($180) – Gifts up to 10 students with autographed books.

• Silver Champion ($425) – Gifts up to 25 students with an author chat, autographed books, and an activity sheet.

• Gold Champion ($1,600) – Gifts up to 100 students with story time, autographed books, and take-home resources.

• Platinum Champion ($4,500) – Gifts multiple grade levels up to 300 students with an author visit, autographed books, and take-home resources.
