Gido Wizniuk’s Family in the Ukraine

Our extended (Gido) Wizniuk family in the Ukraine are in extreme danger with the unprecedented attack by the Russians. I have been in constant contact with our extended family in Chernivsti over the past month with the potential risk of a Russian invasion. They, like the majority of the world, could not believe this atrocity could happen. Our main family contact is with Elena, wife of Andrej Melnyk who is the grandson of Maria Wiznuik (Gido Wiznuiks’s first cousin). Presently the Ukraine is under martial law which prevents all men aged 18 to 60 from leaving the country. Although, from what I am hearing from our Ukrainian family and seeing on social media, they would rather fight for their homeland than  leave! Andrew, who is a trained Anesthesiologist,  is working to save lives of the brave Ukrainian military and citizens defending their country. Elena is working with fellow Ukrainians in Chernivtsi to support the war effort while ensuring the safety of their family.

 

It is my hope the Wizniuk family in Canada will pull together and offer some financial support to our Wizniuk family in the Ukraine to support their efforts. I truly believe Gido would be so proud of his family on both sides of the world as they support the homeland.
