Supporting the Gibson School of Hope in Karibo, Kenya
In 2024, we proudly funded the construction of the Gibson School of Hope in Karibo, and it's already making a huge difference. It has quickly become a success story in the community and is creating real change for the children it supports by giving them access to quality education and a safe place to be.
We will continue our support in 2025 by focusing the Gibson Impact Challenge on raising £10,000 for two initiatives that will sustain the safe running of the school for even more children.
Where the money will go:
- £5,000 → Construction of a larger school building on higher ground, replacing the current flood-damaged structure
- £5,000 → Secondary school scholarships for children leaving primary school who would otherwise need to drop out and much needed new textbooks.
- Any monies raised over this amount will be distributed between a local charity chosen by each Gibson office.
Why will this make a difference:
- The current main classroom was damaged by recent flooding and is now unsafe for use.
- The community already has a plot of land, some building materials, and a group of willing volunteers to do the basic building.
- The school has had a huge impact over the past year and is the most well resourced community school in the area. Expanding it means more children from the Kawangware community can benefit.
- Secondary school scholarships will be provided to children finishing primary school who would otherwise need to drop out of school due to financial difficulties.
- New textbooks are urgently needed as the Kenyan government has revised the national curriculum; our support will also benefit other ChallengeAid-funded schools in the area.
The Challenge:
We have the goal of collectively covering 7,259km in London, Houston and Mumbai - the equivalent of each person climbing Mt Kilimanjaro.
Singapore is aiming to cycle from Singapore to Nairobi – 7,500km!
The Challenge runs from 29th August –12th September
