Gibbs needs your help

Hi everyone. Our boy Gibbs turned 2 in March. My wife and I got him when he was barely 8 weeks old. For her, it was the first dog, for me it was fulfilling a childhood dream: A German Shepherd. A smart, strong, amazing dog. My hiking buddy and companion during the work from home life of the pandemic. One week ago today, our boy suddenly lost nearly all his vision. We’ve had numerous vet visits since, including a veterinary ophthalmologist. We thought at first it was genetic, now, they say it could be some kind of infection or disease.
The specialist has ordered many more tests ‘to cast the widest net possible,’ she said. Gibbs has had some small improvement with the eye drops they proscribed. This leads the vet to believe it may be possible for him to regain some of his sight, or at least prevent further loss, though he will never go back to what he was. So the dog who loved to hike along the shore with us, and could catch anything thrown his way, can no longer do those things.
As you can imagine, the vet bills have piled up very quickly, and we’ve only just got started. Asking for help is not something my wife or I have ever been good at, but now we need to. Everything helps, and if you can help, we can’t thank you enough.
