Gian's Liver Transplant Fund
Hi everyone, this is Gian and Katie. As you know Gian is waiting for a Liver, good news is, his name will start showing on the list in August! Doctors are hopeful a liver could be a match within months. This is great, exciting and nerve wracking news. The reality has set in and we need to prepare, as per our Transplant teams advice!
We have had people ask how they can help us, and with a lot of thought and input from some close friends, we decided to start this GoFundMe campaign to help offset some costs involved with this lifesaving transplant. It's really hard to ask for help, but we have had to sit down and finally admit we need to ask. Even though the transplant and most meds are covered by OHIP, there will be some added expenses that we will struggle to cover, during and after his transplant. I've broken down what is involved.
*For the first few days, I will be at hospital with Gian, his surgery is about 12 hours. It's been recommended that I stay at a nearby hotel by the team, so I am close to him, as I am decision maker (hope for the best, but also have to plan for unforeseen issues).
* Gas/Parking Costs, he will be having many many appointments for weeks, months. We've already spent hundreds of dollars on parking in preparation for his surgery. With an Infant son, I will be travelling a lot to have Cole looked after while Gian is in hospital, and having his numerous followups.
* Lost wages, he will be on STD, however there will be a period before that kicks in where I will have to get doctors to fill out paperwork, and of course have insurance adjudicate it. It can sometimes take a month. I am not working, and maternity benefits ended for me, so it's going to be tight until. Also STD only pays 60% of Gian's wages.
* Meds. Gian will be on antirejection meds for life, we are approved through Trillium Drug however, there is a deductible of $3699. Which means the first $3699 of it is not covered and will be out of pocket. We do have private insurance, however, most of the meds will not be covered by it. The cost of his meds can be upwards of $10,000 month.
We really appreciate any help we can get. We are thankful for the love and support.
