GIA-a disabled puppy dumped by backyard breeders

Meet GIA!
A backyard breeder special-needs reject dumped at the Humane Society.
I wanted to share the story of my new puppy Gia. In hopes that as a village we can make a difference in one dog’s life. And maybe many more.
I live in Broward county in South Florida.
There is a practice here of some backyard breeders to dump their non-sellable dogs at the Humane Society. That is how I found Gia.
Gia immediately caught my eye because I could tell there was something wrong with her back legs. At first, the workers didn’t notice, but I brought it to their attention several times. They said they would look into it and I left.
I couldn’t stop thinking about her so I checked on her several days later. They told me she had been pulled off the adoption list! The x-rays they took during her spay found abnormalities in her back legs. They had me sign some paperwork stating I was adopting her with these known medical issues.
Fast forward through several vet visits and Gia has bilateral patellar luxation. Basically, her knees are dislocated, and she needs immediate surgery.
****$1600 for the CT scan next week. $4500 for each leg.
*****A total of $10600 at least.
I’ve requested and am waiting for an itemized breakdown and will add to this post when it’s sent to me.
This is an unexpected cost I do not have disposable funds for. I have a son at UF and another heading there shortly. But mostly I am livid that my dog has been living with dislocated knees because of where she was born.
This condition can be the result of trauma or genetics. Either reasoning is unacceptable to me. Beyond this immediate go fund me, I am in communication with several news organizations in a hope to make this a story that may increase the level of oversight these backyard breeders have.
Gia will get her surgery. And we will power thru the 4/5 months of recovery. She will never be 100% but I will do everything in my power to make sure she lives a happy and comfortable life.
But the thought she was this close to death because of the deplorable actions of backyard breeders is incomprehensible to me.
Thank you for donating or even just sharing! I am adding pictures of Gia and some documents and X-rays. U can see with your own eye her knees don’t line up. Just awful breeding and animal abuse.
Thank you again anyone who can donate or even just share this post.
Gia will be forever grateful!
