Our mother was struck and killed by a hit and run driver in San Jose, CA in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 24th. We are at a loss for words and are having trouble making sense of why someone would do this. As we make sense of this tragedy we are asking for help with the costs for her burial and potential legal fees if the person is caught.
Peggy (Margaret) Jean Urueta was one of the most loving people we know. She suffered immensely and was diagnosed with schizophrenia when we were kids. When our father passed, she began to spiral even more and could not stay stable for very long. In spite of this she remained a part of our family. Throughout her hard life she laughed with us, cried with us, and was a loving mother, grandmother, auntie, sister and cousin. She always helped people - even though she didn't have much material wealth. Her loving and generous spirit could be felt when you talked with her. Despite all of her trauma, she looked people in the eyes and you could see her spirit shining through. She did her very best to raise us and we were fortunate enough to be a part of a family who supported us unconditionally. Over the last few years she had been living on the streets of San Jose, CA and was a part of the houseless community there.
We plan to lay her to rest with our father at the Sutter Cemetery in Sutter, CA. She loved him and us so much.
All proceeds raised will go towards her funeral, cremation, and burial expenses and any excess will be distributed amongst her seven daughters.
We appreciate any support and hope to find justice for her.
