Ghost Trio

GHOST TRIO - Narrative Short Film, 10 min.

Synopsis:

Ghost Trio is the story of a girl named Kate. She is alone  and trapped in her apartment. She begins to experience many surrealist encounters with herself and the rooms around her.  Kate has to find her own catharsis in the midst of life's absurdity. The atmosphere and tone are inspired by dreams, memories,  and the subconscious mind.

Director's Inspirations:

My inspiration came from a few specific places. The title is taken from a movement in a Beethoven piano trio that is dear to me. It was also used by Samuel Beckett for a teleplay. The music and the surrealist painting “Birthday” (1942) by artist Dorothea Tanning made up the initial tone of the script. That painting is owned by the Philadelphia Museum of Art and I have visited many times just to see it. I am very interested in a woman’s psyche and the larger questions of our existence and how they are filtered through that lens. The character of Kate is very personal to me and represents this, I have written about her for a long time. There is certainly a gothic Alice in Wonderland vibe throughout which she influenced.   Finally, The films of Andrei Tarkovsky, Rainer Fassbinder, and David Lynch have affected me deeply.

Production:

We will be shooting for two days during the second week of July in a beautiful pre-war Park Slope, Brooklyn apartment. Your donations will be matched 100% by an investor we already have on board and the resulting funds will pay for the whole shoot -  equipment, crew, locations, set dressing, costumes, catering as well as the modest post-production we have planned.

We plan on submitting the finished project to all major film festivals that have a program for shorts.
