Hi there,
My name is Dr. Baden, and I am working closely with Daisy's family to get her the care she needs. On Saturday, December 10th, 2022, Daisy was presented to me as a hit-by-car case at an emergency hospital in South Tampa. When she arrived, Daisy was covered in blood and unconscious. She had blood in her lungs and abdomen due to blunt force trauma. I gave her a 50:50 prognosis for recovery and got to work. After a few hours of extensive treatment and stabilization, Daisy slowly regained consciousness.
However, it became clear that something was wrong. We took x-rays that revealed a right hip luxation (her hip was out of the socket). Due to her critical state, we could not resolve the luxation. Her hip will need to be repaired by a veterinary surgeon ASAP with a surgery called a femoral head ostectomy.
When Daisy started to recover in-hospital, we realized she could also not move her left arm. After consultation with a veterinary neurologist, we suspect Daisy has a left brachial plexus avulsion. Sometimes, these injuries can spontaneously resolve; however, if there is no improvement in four weeks, that limb will likely need to be amputated.
Any donation would help facilitate the cost of these surgeries and physical therapy. Both Daisy's family and I are hoping to get her through this and rehome her with a family that is comfortable with special needs puppies. Currently, she is in my care as a medical foster as she cannot walk without assistance.
Please donate to her care. Anything will help. Thus far, she is scheduled for surgery this Friday. I plan to take her to a neurologist this week to ensure she is a good surgical candidate.
With love,
Dr. Baden
