Dear Film Lovers,
I would like to personally invite you to join me in creating my independent short-film Anemoia. After my award-winning short-film Gnomes ends its film festival run I’ve written a screenplay with co-writer Aaric Lupo that speaks to the masses undergoing issues of loneliness and depression. The story reaches out to the current generation that’s entering the world as young adults.
Like any good short-film the themes of mental health are embedded carefully instead of pandered to. I’m here to tell a story of two polar opposite characters forced to make a human connection in a lonely world made up of their childhood memories.
With your donation you will give the rocket fuel to reach places that weren’t possible. Your help will enable my vision as a reality without any compromise to its quality. The success that would come out of those places will be something you and I will be proud of. Just like my last short-film, Anemoia will play at numerous film festivals around the globe.
Anemoia is directed and co-written by Raphael Cosme. It will be shooting in St. Augustine & Jacksonville, Florida but also taking its cast and crew overseas to shoot in Merida, Mexico late 2024. The short-film will be completed after post-production in 2025.
The film revolves around Cameron and Claire who find themselves in another dimension, liminal spaces that mirror their real world…except, this one has no other people in it. They visit places from their childhood, encountering both comforting and traumatizing experiences, as they journey to greater self-awareness, connection.
The target goal is $20,000 and all funds donated to Anemoia will go towards these areas:
- Cast & Crew - We would be able to attach high-skilled cast & crew nationwide to raise the cinematic quality of the project.
- Locations - The locations are what makes Anemoia, they tell the backstory of these characters without having to be expositional through dialogue. We are going overseas to shoot in Mexico because there are a list of locations such as amusement parks & zoos that capture the aesthetic of the 90s/early 2000s which is missing in today’s architecture.
- Sets - Raphael has been a practical filmmaker all his life with minimal reliance on VFX. For this short-film his crew will build some of the locations in real-life but also some as miniature model sets to achieve depth perception.
- Music - We are looking to borrow license to songs such as the one heard in the teaser trailer for Anemoia.
- Time - Funds will go towards having enough shoot days to accommodate the time we need at each location. Since there are many locations in this short-film, set ups and breakdowns of equipment can take hours. This will make the production run smoothly to focus on giving the coverage and performances we need in the timeframe.
