As many of you may have seen on the news, our beautiful Ghara was involved in a truly horrific incident over the weekend.
Somehow, she became trapped upside down in a ditch in her field, which was rapidly filling with water. She was discovered at around 1:30pm, and the fire brigade and vet were called immediately. What followed was an incredibly difficult and dangerous rescue operation.
Due to the awful ground conditions and the fact that Ghara is a very large, highly strung horse, she was understandably in extreme distress. Despite administering copious amounts of sedation—and even anaesthesia—she remained panicked, and it quickly became clear that the original rescue plan would not be enough.
At that point, our wonderful neighbour from JPro Developments came to our aid with his digger. This was an incredibly skilled and risky operation, made even more challenging by Ghara’s continued distress. Jamie carefully dug away enough of the ditch to allow a huge team of firefighters and animal rescue specialists to work together to free her. With immense teamwork, they were finally able to drag Ghara out of the ditch and pull her to safety using the digger.
It is nothing short of a miracle that she survived.
Ghara is now receiving ongoing veterinary care, and the costs of the emergency response vets, specialist treatment, and recovery are significant. We are incredibly grateful to everyone involved in saving her life, and to anyone who has already offered support.
If you are able to donate or share this page, it would mean the world to us and will go directly towards Ghara’s vets bill and anything left over will be donated to the incredible fire and rescue service. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, support, and love
