Hi Everyone! Hola Todos!
My name is Sebastian Tovar and I am currently a sophomore at Carleton College majoring in International Relations with a concentration in Cross-Cultural Studies. I am highly interested in learning more about other cultures, human groups, and languages. This is with the aim of someday being a bridge that unites people and allows them to have a better understanding for one another. However, a wise man once told me that “you cannot fully understand and share with other cultures and histories, before first understanding and familiarizing yourself with your own”. This is the reason why, as an Afro-descendant, I have decided to further my knowledge of the continent from where my ancestors came from. By gaining this knowledge, through the Ghanaian perspective, I hope to gain an insight into the history and traditions that are part of my own history.
The reason why I am raising money is because I was accepted to study at the University of Ghana- Legon for the Fall 2016 semester through a CIEE (Council on International Exchange Education) program. Even though many of the costs are covered by my Posse Full-Tuition Leadership Scholarship that I received to attend Carleton, there are still many other costs, such as airplane tickets, visas, medical bills, and food, among others, that are not covered by it.
Please donate anything that you are able to and that will help me and my family lessen the costs. By doing so, you will be helping me to discover parts of my history, learn about a new culture, and get a little closer in my quest to unite the world.

Mi nombre es Sebastian Tovar y actualmente estoy cursando mi segundo año de universidad en Carleton College (USA), mi carrera está orientada en Relaciones Internacionales y estoy haciendo una especialización en estudios multiculturales. Estoy inmensamente apasionado en aprender más sobre otras culturas, grupos humanos, y lenguajes. Esto es con el propósito de algún día poder ser un puente que una a la gente del mundo y ayude a los diferentes grupos humanos a aprender más los unos de los otros. Sin embargo, un hombre muy sabio una vez me dijo “no es posible entender y compartir con otras culturas e historias, sin primero entender la propia”. Esta es la razón por la que siendo un Afro-descendiente, he decidido adquirir más conocimientos sobre el continente del que provinieron mis antepasados. Obteniendo esta conocimiento por medios de la sociedad Ghanesa, espero tener un mejor entendimiento sobre la historia y las tradiciones que son parte de mi propia historia.
La razón por la que estoy recolectado dinero es porque fui aceptado a un programa de CIEE (Consejo para la Educación en el Extranjero) para estudiar en la Universidad de Ghana-Legon por un semestre. Aunque muchos de los costos están abrigados por mi beca de liderazgo para Carleton otorgada por la fundación Posse, aún hay varios otros costos asociados con este programa que no están cubiertos, incluyendo los boletos de avión, las visas, los gastos médicos, comidas, entre otros.
Por favor haga una donación de cualquier monto que nos ayude a mi familia y a mí, a que reduzcan los precios de este programa. Donando, usted me está ayudando a descubrir mi pasado, aprender sobre una nueva cultura, y a estar un paso más cerca de llegar a mi objetivo de unir al mundo.
