Ghana Study Abroad Summer 2019

Hello everyone! My name is Jasmiri Valerio. I am currently a sophomore at SUNY Cortland, majoring in African American Studies and Political Science.  I have been afforded the opportunity to study abroad for 4 weeks this upcoming summer in Ghana. The program will explore the history and economics of African development. I will also get to experience first hand the history of a region that has been affected by slavery, colonialism, and neo colonialism. I will also be learning about the Ghanian economy and civilizations before the advent of the Europeans; the role of women in the economy; and some poverty alleviation programs instituted by the government and international organizations. In addition, I will be meeting and interviewing people who have been affected by post-independence industrialization projects. I will be fulfilling 6 credit hours at the University of Ghana where I will be taking classes from 8:30am to 12:30pm. 

With that being said, I made this account in order to raise funds that will help cover the trip cost. I hope that you can help me out, and if not please share! I would greatly appreciate the support. 

The trip in total will cost $4,96760, but I am only seeking to raise $4,000 through this platform. That amount includes pre-departure orientation, all in-country travel, lodging, some meals, entry to multiple sites and museums, round-trip airfare, visa, tuition,  mandatory SUNY study abroad health insurance, instructional costs and administrative fees.
