Ghana Orthopedic Training Centre Scholarship Fund
Donation protected
Hello from Dr. Barbara Christie. I am seeking funding for scholarships to support students with special needs in Ghana, West Africa. The students are receiving support from the Orthopedic Training Centre (OTC) in Nsawam. The Centre was started in 1961 and helps 7,000 patients yearly.
The cost of an education is too expensive for many families. Your financial support will help cover the public-school fees, books, school uniforms and transportation.
Please see this 2-minute video showing the children with amputations.
In 1985, as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana I taught biology at St. Martins Secondary School. My secondary project was reading to children and taking them into the pool at the Orthopedic Training Centre. The OTC was led by Sister Elizabeth (SSND) and Brother Tarcisius (SVD).
Currently, under the leadership of Sister Elizabeth, the Centre provides orthopedic shoes, shoe prosthesis, leg braces, artificial legs and arms, and splints.
I worked with many of you in the past and I am asking if you would please PAY IT FORWARD to support a child who needs your help to attend school.
Thank You,
Dr. Barbara Christie
