Support Jordan's Journey to Recovery

Donation protected
My name is Charles, but I go by Jordan. I have been living in NYC for the past twenty years, and it is my adopted home. But I have had a string of very bad luck lately, and for the very first time in my life, I am asking for help.

Recently, I had to have the BIG TOE ON MY LEFT FOOT AMPUTATED, and now I'm stuck in a rehab hospital for the next six weeks. I'm diabetic, and a toe injury that wouldn't heal led to sepsis, which led to amputation. It was very traumatic, and I'm still adjusting to this new reality. I'm undergoing daily physical therapy, so that I can learn how to walk and move again without the stability of my missing big toe.

I was previously working as a waiter, but now I'm unable to work until my foot heals and I get out of the rehab hospital. I'm currently broke and need a helping hand. So my friend Deena encouraged me to create this GoFundMe page. I'm not the kind of person who asks for help easily, but Deena can be very convincing. If you know her, you know what I mean!

Just before losing my big toe, I lost my home, had to put all my things in storage, and was crashing on a friend's couch. Shortly after that, my beloved cat of 18 years died, and I was completely heartbroken and devastated. I'm not exaggerating when I say I've had a string of very bad luck!

I'm hoping to raise enough money to buy food for me and my dog, and pay my phone bill and the storage fees for my possessions, just to name a few.

My overall goal is to try to get back on my feet again, both literally and figuratively. I want to get my own place again, so I will no longer need to sleep on my friends' couches.

I'm not trying to be greedy, but NYC is very expensive. I just need a little help at the moment, this one time, to help pay some bills until I can go back to work. In addition, I am also hoping to raise enough money for a security deposit and first month's rent. I need some stability in my life, and that means having my own place to live once again.

I thank everyone who even just reads my story. Even if all you can do is share this page, that helps.

Everyone needs a little help every now and then, and now it's my turn. It's not easy for me to do, and it's a very humbling experience. But if you can find it in your heart to donate, it would mean so much to me and would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

God bless you all, and have a lovely day.

MY BACK STORY...

In April of this year, I lost my home. I had a horrible, homophobic landlord, who told lies about me to the other tenants, refused to make necessary repairs, refused to allow my boyfriend to move in with me (but allowed heterosexual couples to rent rooms), complained about my service dog, and harassed me incessantly for six years. The daily harassment was torturous and emotionally draining.

In April, my landlord presented me with an eviction notice, based on lies. And so I was forced to move out and put most of my possessions in storage. On the one hand, it was a huge relief to finally escape that horrific situation. On the other hand, it was terrifying because now I'm homeless!

I was crashing on a friend's couch before landing in the rehab hospital, but that's only temporary. I need to find a place of my own to rent once I get out of the rehab hospital, so I can regain some stability in my life.

Not long after being evicted, my beloved cat, Ra, had to be mercifully put down to end his suffering. He was 18 years old, and his kidneys had failed. That was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do in my life. My heart is broken. I've never had to do this with a pet before, and I don't know if my heart is ever going to recover.

I had just barely begun to heal emotionally from this devastating loss, when I had a health scare. I'm diabetic, and I had a wound on my foot that wouldn’t heal. I developed sepsis, and the big toe on my left foot had to be amputated. While a toe might not sound like much to lose, and I know some are much less fortunate than me, it was very traumatic nonetheless.

As a result of the amputation, I need to spend the next six weeks in a rehab hospital. My foot needs time to heal, and I need physical therapy to learn how to walk and move without the stability of my left big toe. (You don't realize how important your big toes are for balance--until you lose one.)

Obviously, I am unable to work while in the rehabilitation center. And getting the correct food I need as a diabetic has also been a struggle in this facility. Meanwhile, bills are starting to come in, and I'm completely broke. I can't pay any of my bills, and I'm worried about losing all my possessions in the storage unit for lack of payment!

In order to pay my bills, prevent the loss of all my possessions, and hopefully get into a new place of my own, I'm asking for your help.

LANDLORD BACK STORY:

Six years ago, I decided to move because my then-landlord wouldn't allow me to get a service dog, which I really needed. So I met with this man about renting a room in a house. The man presented himself as the landlord, but in reality, he was not. His mother was the actual landlord.

And when the mother (the real landlord) found out that I was getting a service dog, she flipped out. She knew she couldn’t legally throw me out, but she began harassing me for the next six years.

The landlord told me that Sakarra, my dog, was barking when I’m not home. But I kept a camera going in my room, and my dog never made a sound, so I knew it wasn't true. My dog is very laid back and rarely ever barks.

And after I moved in, the landlord also threw a fit because my boyfriend was supposed to move in with me at a later date. Her son had told me it wouldn't be a problem, but the mom/landlord said the rooms were single occupancy only, so my boyfriend was NOT allowed to move in. But during the six years that I lived there, she allowed two different heterosexual couples to rent rooms in the building. (Apparently, she had a different set of rules for heterosexual vs. homosexual couples.).

And no one ever complained to her about my dog. I always asked the other residents if my dog was a problem for them, and everyone always said no, and that they adored her. The landlord constantly made up lies about receiving complaints about my dog.

THANK YOU FOR READING MY STORY!

Many thanks for taking the time to read the long version of my story. And thank you in advance for any assistance you are able to provide, even if that is just sharing this GoFundMe page on your social media pages. I am so grateful for your help.

God bless you all, and take care.
