Jacks New Life (&Wheels)

Donation protected
I adopted Jack from Greece (Takis Shelter in Lerapetra-Crete) and bought him home to the U.K. Jack was a hunting dog who was dumped and then hit by a car causing paralysis. He uses a wheelchair to get around. If you follow us on social media you will know what a beautiful, amazing, soppy boy he is. He’s an old guy, estimated to be around 13 years old.

He has adapted well to life in the U.K. and is living his best life. He has started physiotherapy and hydrotherapy

Next bit of not so good news. Jacks been to his hydrotherapy session today. He started off with some relaxing in the water just to build his confidence and he did some work on his hind legs. The not so good news is that his wheelchair is actually doing more harm than good When we left the shelter Takis said I might want to try and get new wheels, and today that’s been confirmed. Due to he massive weight he is having to bare on his front it’s increasing the pressure on his shoulders and back and worsening the arthritis on his front legs and if I don’t get it sorted it will be game over which is hard as he seems so happy when he is out and about, but, I have from the beginning thought that he is having to hold waaay too much on the front of his body and he has an uneven weight balance meaning his back is curving and his elbows are bending the wrong way. So…we have been recommended to Eddies wheels in the USA which is one of….if not the best dog wheelchair provider, making custom build wheels for each dog. These come with a really hefty price tag and I’m looking at just under a thousand dollars after shipping, but the thought of him never being able to explore freely again is too much so we will be pushing ahead and going for Eddies Wheels and I will take on some extra work to find the money. For now, to relieve the damage and not cause anymore, Jack will be going out on a special sling harness that I will carry.

I never planned to need to fundraiser, but alone it will take me a long time to get the money needed and given his age, I don’t know how much time we have and it breaks my heart that he is going to loose his independence for the time being.

Thank you so much for reading and for everyone’s continued support.
