Get Well Christopher

Hi Everyone,
As some of you may know, our doorman Christopher's last day at Huis24 was Friday. He unfortunately had to leave for medical reasons as he was recently diagnosed with liver cancer. I thought of getting him a get well/going away gift but thought this would be much more useful. Having gone through a cancer fight with my father a few years ago, I remembered how much the little out-of-pocket expenses add up, even after insurance covers the major medical expenses (if you're lucky). These are things like:
Various co-pays- prescriptions, visits, equipment, etc.
Gas, tolls, parking, etc. for the multitude of appointments
Cab rides when you are too sick to drive or take public transportation
Food and supplements that are recommended by the doctor but are not covered by insurance (Ensure, vitamins, etc.)
New clothing if your weight changes
Extra food and entertainment during hospital stays
Extra help around the house (cleaning, health aide)
Basic necessities due to lost wages if you miss work
I think everyone knows how great Christopher was to have at the building, always going out of his way to help everyone, and with a smile and such a positive attitude. I hope we can put something together to help out with his expenses. I figure most of us were going to contribute something to a Christmas card this year anyway, and now we won't be since he has left. If we can put that together I think it would be really helpful. Please share with other residents if you think they might be interested.
