Butters' Medical Fund
Please note:
Prior to this second procedure, Butters' GoFundMe had raised $4,163. This amount was already applied to his previous procedure and his continue care. The fundraising goal has been adjusted to $15,000 to account for this. In total, I'm hoping to raise approximately $10,000 for Butters' VP Shunt surgery.
Updated June 2nd, 2016
After an accident that left him with several cranial fractures, Butters had a craniotomy to implant titianium plates into his skull at the tender age of five weeks old. The only side effect observed were his seizures, but they have since then been controlled by medication and regular visits to the neurology department at VCA All Care Referral Center in Fountain Valley, California.
Last week, I noticed that Butters was running into things. I took him in to get checked at VCA. His neurologist took an x-ray and some MRIs. They found that Butters has hydrocephalus on the right side of his brain. He will need to have another surgery to implant a ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt in his brain to drain the excess fluid. His surgery has been tentatively scheduled for Monday, June 13th.
Today (June 2nd) we were given the estimate for his surgery. It will cost anywhere between $9,074.64 to $12,241.45. My CareCredit and my Discover have already been maxed out so those options are out. Later today, I will be researching some emergency veterinary funds and grants to see if they could be of assistance. I've also applied to several organizations for financial assistance and have filed a claim with Butters' ASPCA pet insurance. I'm hoping that they will not deny the claim, basing their decision on his hydrocephalus being a "pre-existing condition." But until then, I'm hoping to raise enough funds to at least pay the minium deposit and help Butters get healthy.
