We are reaching out to you because we have started (with the Gettysburg, PA school board approval) a GoFundMe in order to bring 20-25 Gettysburg Area High School JROTC Student-Cadets to Normandy in June of 2022 for the 78th anniversary of the Allied beach landings and Airborne Jump on D-Day (OPERATION OVERLORD). The students will participate in a weeks’ worth of service-learning projects in conjunction with the Historic Programs, a National Commemorative Partner and non-profit organization dedicated to honoring our veterans and educating our younger generations. Teachers are often asked, what is the history we are teaching our young people today? This trip of service will educate these young people on so many levels. They won’t simply read or watch movies about what occurred on D-Day. They will look to the skies where American Paratroopers dared greatly a leaped into the dark unknown, they will stand on the sand of Utah and Omaha beaches and breath the same air of the Citizen-Soldiers, who against overwhelming odds stormed ashore, and they will gaze up at the cliffs of Pointe du Hoc.
Small donations will add up. Our goal is to defray the cost of the trip as much as possible for the Student-Cadets. The individual Student-Cadet trip cost for the entire program (to include air travel) is roughly $3000 per student for 8 days and 6 nights.
Our students and community would be so very appreciative if you could support their GoFundMe by making a donation and then sharing it with your network.
