Getting the GIST of Natalie Anton
Donation protected
There is a friend in our wonderful community in need of our most generous support. Her name is Natalie Anton and she recently celebrated turning 10 on February 14th.
Natalie has been ill for a year now. She was hospitalized for 6 days this past month, where a diagnosis was finally made- G.I.S.T.- gastrointestinal stromal tumors. (cancer) They are soft tissue sarcomas that can be located in any part of the digestive system but are most commonly found in the stomach and small intestine.
Following her hospitalization in Portland, Natalie and her mother, Katie Corson, made a long trek to Boston Children's Hospital. There they met with Dana Farber oncologist Dr. Kate and pediatric surgeon Dr. Bren Weil and discovered that Natalie needs stomach surgery to remove the tumors. The extent of the surgery will be decided while the operation is taking place.
The Anton/Corson's were given the positive prognosis that no chemotherapy should be needed at this time, but the prohibitive costs NOT covered by medical insurance, fuel expenses for trips to Boston and Portland and other miscellaneous expenses prompted some family friends to set up this page.
In the meantime, here's the REAL gist of Miss Natalie: kind, caring, artistic and beautiful! Natalie has a flair for clothing fashion that pairs colors and patterns with styles that are unique and fun. Natalie also has a compassionate nature combined with lots of common sense and a sense of responsibility. She is such a cherished asset to her mom and Jesse with her youngest siblings, doting on Mathew and Jessica in such a motherly way...
As Natalie's favorite nurse Miss Mary Ellen told her, "This is just the beginning of your journey. There's still a ways to go." I hope we can count on you- family, friends and community members to help Natalie and her family on this arduous path. Every little bit that we can contribute helps to reduce some of the pressure and strain that affects the whole family. Thank you so much for your time and donations!
