Hello friends, I never saw myself in a position where I would need to ask around for financial assistance, but I have come to the realization that this is my only option. I am requesting your help with paying my and my suitemate's April rent due to unsafe living conditions.

For my junior year, I moved into a single. My apartment has one other single and one double. The resident of the single has moved out, leaving a vacancy that we have not been able to resolve yet. Over the year, it has come to my suitemate's and my attention that one person living in the double (Person A) is seriously unsafe to live with. He uses alcohol and other substances very heavily to the point where it impairs his judgement daily, he verbally intimidates and gaslights romantic partners, he uses racist and homophobic slurs, he carries large knives on his person, and today, he used physical aggression toward my suitemate. Neither I nor my suitemate feels safe living in this situation, and we are applying for emergency UCSD housing.

However, even if we get approved for emergency housing this week, we will still have to pay the full rent for the month of April. This means that in addition to us covering our respective rents AND paying for emergency housing, we will have to collectively produce rent for the vacant single for the month. We do not feel comfortable asking Person A to help with this, and we may have additional expenses in the next couple days as Person A's aggression and substance use has increased dramatically in the past few weeks. My roommate and I are barely able to pay our own rent. Both of my parents recently lost their job, and paying last month's rent was already a struggle. Given this, we are seriously stressed about money on top of our concerns about our own safety tonight.

If you can chip in any amount, no matter how small, my suitemate and I will be incredibly grateful to you. And if you can't, but if you feel comfortable sharing this on your story, that would be wonderful as well. Person A does not have Instagram, so we are not worried that he will discover this.
