Getting Missy Back on Her Feet!
Donation protected
Friends, many of you will remember my fundraiser back in May for Missy's FHO hip surgery. Well it has been a tough recovery for my sweet girl / our FOBP mascot / and official "temp-tester" for the pound dogs, aka she's so even tempered that we are able to use her to video with all our pound dogs to show their ability to interact with another dog without incident. Missy ended up needing a second FHO surgery on the same hip and has been going through the recovery process since June. During this time, she has been working hard with weekly physical therapy sessions and acupuncture treatment to help her...literally...get back on her feet. She lost 5 inches of muscle mass in her leg, but has been the best and most-loved patient at the therapy center for over 14 weeks now. But her recovery was....short lived. The song "Oops I did it again..." comes to mind. Last weekend, Missy's cranial cruciate ligament (aka her ACL) ruptured during routine movements. This is another devastating setback for her...my best friend, the loyal face of the dog-saving organization I co-founded, and our trusty pound helper. These "jobs" are in addition to her work as a certified therapy dog, often visiting assisted living facilities and bringing smiles to the faces of many. Missy is in pain, but putting on such a brave face. She needs surgery as soon as possible, to end the pain and begin the recovery. After an extensive search of surgeons and prices, the most affordable will be approximately $3,000 with medications, plus therapy costs. I hate to ask for help, we much prefer to give it. But she and I need it now. She's been through so much and helped hundreds of pound dogs get to their new lives. I want to get her back to her own life, pain-free, and back to doing what she loves -- playing with pound dogs and in turn, saving their lives with me. Please consider helping Missy or sharing her story. I am so grateful.
Love,
Katie
