Getting Lia to the US

Hi, my name is Diane Cooner and I'm fundraising for Lia Teresa Gallegos Lumbi.

Lia is the sister of Aldair, who many people have helped in the past year via another GFM campaign to help him with his fight against leukemia.

Father Romeo’s plans for Lia were dashed in 2023 when his son developed leukemia. The plan was to do whatever was needed to get his daughter Lia to the US, via the asylum program that was introduced in January 2023. This was something that no one outside of the US could help with, it had to come from someone in the US. And it did! A friend of Romeo’s in Sacramento, California, filled out the asylum paperwork for Lia, including financial statements to the effect that this person has the wherewithal to support Lia for 2 years.

The US government has accepted Lia’s application and has authorized travel to the US! Homeland Security letter says she has until March 24 to travel.

THIS IS SUCH GREAT NEWS!

We have already secured a plane ticket for her; she will be flying on February 1 from Nicaragua to El Salvador and then on the San Francisco, where her supporters there will receive her and take her to Sacramento to start a new life. She has university education in finance and will be given a work permit. She is leaving behind her family and 6 year-old daughter.

We need to send some $ with this young woman – her father has requested $800. This is to take care of any related needs once she is in the US. This translates to 8 people at $100, or 16 at $50, you can do the numbers. We have until the end of January to make this happen! I am starting this short-term GoFundMe campaign just for this need.

I was taught that Giving is Living, and in this case while 2023 was a brutal year, some really great things have come from it, and with all of us helping, we can continue with greatness into 2024.
