Update 3/6/26

Laura will have radiation therapy in the upcoming weeks. All prayers and positive energy is needed and appreciated. Her plan is to move back to Texas to receive the treatment, get additional medical care, and get the level of support she needs while recovering from the radiation and chemo. The move is set to take place on 3/14/26. Because of her rising costs, your donations are urgently needed! Here is a cost breakdown of what Laura is facing:

Update 3/2/26

Laura is recovering from the surgery at a medical center near the UVA hospital. She will have her one-time radiation treatment on 3/5/26. Laura's plan is to move to Texas and have a good support system there to begin her chemotherapy treatments. Laura truly appreciates and needs all of your messages, prayers, donations, and visits if you are able to come. In addition to medical costs, surgeries, and procedures, donations will also be used to fund her move to Texas. Again, any amount you can give helps tremendously. Laura appreciates everyone who has been praying, visiting, sending gifts, and lifting her spirits. She's a fighter.

Update 2/23/26

Laura's brain surgery went very well and all of the tumor was removed without damage to other parts of her brain. After recuperation from the surgery, she will begin radiation, most likely in about 2 weeks. Laura is dealing with a lot of pain from a tumor in her lung. Radiation and chemotherapy will be used to target it. There are some more tumors and lesions as well. Laura needs your messages, prayers, and visits if you are able to come. Donations are being used for rising medical costs, surgeries, and procedures. Again, any amount helps. Update 2/17/26

Laura had brain surgery today. The doctor said the surgery went well and they got all of the largest tumor. The surgery lasted many hours because the tumor was located right next to her language center and brain stem. She will need some tests to see if anything was permanently damaged, but the doctor is confident it will be minimal. The journey begins with 1 of 13 tumors gone. Laura will also need radiation and chemo to battle the other tumors, some are inoperable. She needs your messages, prayers, and visits if you are able to come. Donations are needed for these rising medical costs, surgeries, and procedures. Again, any amount helps. Laura appreciates all who have been praying, visiting, and lifting her spirits. Update 2/11/26

The latest MRI showed 9-13 more tumors in her brain and 2 on her spine. A lumbar puncture was performed today to check to see if there was cancer cells in her spinal fluid. The results from that are not back yet. The surgery has been postponed due to the size. They are considering radiation to shrink the tumor before they operate. They have also given her the option of hospice. She would like to be able to do radiation. However the plan moving forward is still on hold until they receive the lumbar puncture results.

I’m writing to you today on behalf of a wonderful woman, mother, grandmother, sibling, niece, and friend, Laura. While just in her 50s, Laura has recently received the kind of news no one is ever prepared for. She has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, with tumors located in both her lung and her brain.

Next week, Laura will undergo critical brain surgery. While she is a fighter, this diagnosis means she can no longer live on her own. To ensure she has the 24/7 support and the family environment she needs to recover and continue her battle, she is moving halfway across the country to live with her adult son.

Why We Need Your Help - Moving is stressful under the best circumstances, but moving cross-country during a medical crisis is a massive financial and physical undertaking. Laura needs to focus 100% of her energy on surgery and healing, not on how she will afford the logistics of this transition.

$1,500: Professional movers and packing assistance (as Laura cannot physically lift or pack her home).
